Mesa Rim Climbing Gym Opens First Texas Location

The community-centric fitness space encourages physical and social activity for people of all skill levels

Mesa Rim Climbing Center opened its highly anticipated Austin location on March 7.

Located in the heart of the Sheldon Cove development between North and Central Austin, the custom-designed facility now serves as the Southwest’s largest and tallest climbing gym.

Mesa Rim’s new location spans roughly 50,000 square feet and offers a variety of physical activities for visitors to partake in, including diverse rope climbing, bouldering, rock-climbing on 55-foot tall walls, yoga in a luxurious studio, cardio and weight-lifting and climbing training. Other amenities include a sauna and a spa-quality locker room.

The athletic club will also host youth and collegiate teams and clubs, competitions, corporate retreats, team buildings and other community events.

With a mission to benefit guests of all backgrounds and skill levels, the new fitness center features experiences that appeal to everyone, not just expert climbers and seasoned athletes.

“At Mesa, climbing is all about finding joy through the exploration of movement,”  says Mesa Rim CEO Ian McIntosh. “No matter the age or skill level, we hope to cater to the city’s most experienced climbers as well as those who are curious about climbing or just looking for a healthy and fun activity.”

In celebration of the Texas grand opening, Mesa Rim hosted the 2023 USA Climbing National Team Trials and Paraclimbing National Championship from February 28 to March 5. Combining two major happenings into one National Team-qualifying event for the Elite and Paraclimbing series for the 2023 season, the new gym welcomed athletes to compete in all three disciplines of climbing – Bouldering, Lead and Speed. Opening with a bang, the event was the first of its kind in the U.S. and showcases the center’s goals to inspire and invigorate the climbing community.

Mesa Rim first originated in 2010 in San Diego and quickly grew in popularity. Since then it’s expanded its locations from Southern California to Reno, Nevada, and now Austin.
