Nulo Barkitecture Austin

Usually being “in the dog house” is a bad thing. Not anymore!

Nulo Barkitecture Austin returns Sunday, October 27, for its 15th annual celebration, silent auction and fundraising event showcasing custom doghouses created by some of the city’s foremost architects, builders and designers. We’ve picked out some of our favorites in the photo gallery above.

The event, which is free and open to the public, includes a “dogstume contest” with prizes up for grabs for the best-dressed pups. Shop Austin pet stores or hang out BarkLounge, where guests and pets can make new friends over drinks and bites from local food trucks. You can also have your dog’s picture taken by S. Robertson Pet Photography for $40.

Proceeds from the silent auction and pet portraits go to Safe in Austin, Lone Star Doberman Rescue and Austin Pets Alive. Austin Subaru will also present an award to one of these charities chosen by the designer whose doghouse earns the highest bid.

This year you can bid online through eBay so take a look at the items, pick a palace your pet would love and place a bid.

Architect Jamie Chioco, blogger Camille Styles, Austin Home editor Madeline Hollern, Good Day Austin weekend anchor Tania Ortega and Studio 512 hosts Rosie Newberry and Stephanie Gerry will serve on a judges’ panel and award prizes to the doghouse designers in several categories. The public can also vote on their favorite.

Pack your pooch and head to Nulo Barkitecture Austin on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Fair Market at 1100 East 5th Street.

If you’re feeling like a top dog and want to get a first look at the custom doghouses, stop by The Belmont (305 W. 5th Street) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a pre-view party on Thursday, October 24. You can get a sneak peek at a handful of the doghouses up for bid this year and enjoy cocktails and food from Tacodeli. Tickets for the preview party are available here.
