Austin’s Healthy Haven for Organic Vegan Cuisine Expands with Casa de Luz East
A marvelous macrobiotic menu and peaceful communal dining room echoes the ethos of the original location of this beloved restaurant
With 40 successful years of serving customers nourishing, organic vegan fare in such a charming community space on Toomey Road, Casa de Luz has been an iconic holistic wellness institution for locals and visitors alike. So when we first heard about Casa de Luz’s new location in East Austin, we were extremely curious to see if the beloved, peaceful and unique atmosphere of the original location could exist in a completely new space. A recent weekend visit for a hearty lunch gave us the opportunity to check it out, and yes, Casa de Luz East offers familiar vibes with the same high-quality cooking.
Loyal Patrons Bring Casa de Luz to Austin’s East Side
The new restaurant is located at 1915 E MLK which is a mixed-use wellness property owned by Blake Thompson and Robert McKee of State Street Properties. Thompson, a cyclist, and McKee, a runner, have been loyal patrons of Casa de Luz for over 15 years. The idea for the expansion stemmed from their passion for healthy eating along with the desire to make nutritionally conscious fare accessible to everyone, and so they partnered with Casa de Luz founder Eduardo Longoria. Much like the Toomey Road location, the new location serves daily set macrobiotic vegan menus featuring fresh, simple seasonal foods made without any processed oils.
“Much like our original village on Toomey, Casa East offers a thoughtful and unique aesthetic while remaining true to our original Austin roots. East Austin will finally get to experience the joy of Casa de Luz, a truly peaceful and welcoming space to share a meal and genuinely know one another,” says Casa de Luz founder Eduardo Longoria.
Casa de Luz East is is located at 1915 East Martin Luther King Blvd. It is open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. For more information visit @casadeluz_east on Instagram.
