Fabrik and Kappo Kappo earned their first Michelin stars in the 2026 Michelin Guide Texas, announced Oct. 8. The two newcomers join five Austin restaurants that retained their one-star distinctions. Austin’s selections also include 15 Bib Gourmand recipients, recognized for quality food at good value, and 23 recommended restaurants.

Kappo Kappo opened this year at the Austin Proper Hotel. Led by chefs Haru and Gohei Kishi, the intimate, 25-seat restaurant serves French-Japanese omakase. Fabrik, a plant-based fine dining restaurant that opened in 2023, recently relocated to Central East Austin.

Stefan Davis, general manager and sommelier at Barley Swine, received Michelin’s Outstanding Service Award, recognizing excellence in hospitality.

This year’s selections were announced digitally, following two years of ceremonies in Houston. The announcement also marks the final year of Michelin’s original three-year, $2.7 million agreement with Texas and local tourism agencies. Whether the guide will return in 2027 remains unclear.
