Camila Alves McConaughey on Beauty From the Inside Out
Learn about McConaughey's Women of Today Beauty Summit in Austin, and enter to win a pair of tickets

Ahead of the first-ever Women of Today (WOT) Beauty Summit on Oct. 18 in Austin, we sat down with WOT founder Camila Alves McConaughey to talk about beauty from the inside out and what it really means to feel beautiful. The conversation goes beyond products and treatments to explore wellness, aging, self-care and the often-overlooked connection between how we feel and how we see ourselves.
For McConaughey, the idea for the Beauty Summit, grew directly from conversations with the Women of Today community. After years of wellness-focused events, questions about health naturally opened the door to a deeper conversation about beauty. The result is a day designed to look at beauty from every angle, from inner wellness to treatments, products, styling and more.

TRIBEZA Editor-in-Chief Heidi Okla chats with McConaughey about beauty from the inside out:
TRIBEZA: You have hosted Women of Today wellness events for the past couple of years. What inspired you to expand into beauty, and why now?
MCCONAUGHEY: With the wellness events over the last two years, we brought in a lot of questions from the community about the topic of hormones affecting hair and hair loss, skin, weight. And that kind of triggered this conversation. The community started asking us, ‘Can we actually have a deeper conversation about beauty?’ So that’s how this event started. With Women of Today, we really try to focus on what the community is asking us: What are they looking for answers to? What solutions are they looking for? What are they struggling with? That’s truly how Women of Today works. That’s why I call it a community-based website, where it’s really a conversation happening. It’s a dialogue, not a monologue.
TRIBEZA: It’s interesting to hear how much reader feedback shapes your topics and programming. You’ve also asked your community, ‘When have you felt most beautiful?’ How would you answer that question yourself?
MCCONAUGHEY: I think when I’ve felt the most beautiful was when I was feeling the strongest from the inside out. It was when my health was at its best; when I feel physically strong. I read all the the responses that we got from the WOT community, and it was interesting to me because it boiled down to one thing: times that were spent not focusing so much on how they looked, but when they were focusing on a bigger picture. And when they felt really good about themselves, they felt the most beautiful.

TRIBEZA: Let’s talk about aging for a minute. Your mother-in-law, Kay “Ma Mac” McConaughey, is 94 years old and looks incredible. Has she given you any beauty advice that has stuck with you? Will she be sharing some of that wisdom at the summit?
MCCONAUGHEY: Yes, but her advice is more about beauty from the inside, especially related to food. You will hear her talk a lot about eating clean. We have a panel together, but it’s really her panel. I just help facilitate. And she’s awesome because she shares some amazing wisdom and experience.
TRIBEZA: Are there any beauty or wellness habits that have been noticeably impactful for you?
MCCONAUGHEY: There are few things. This year, I started to do this very simple thing, which is to drink more water. A doctor explained to me that he was actually looking at my routine, and he said, ‘You’re doing great, but you’re doing one thing wrong.’ He noted, ‘You start your day with matcha, which is a diuretic.’ So he explained that at night we lose fluid and we’re waking up dehydrated, but having matcha first is more dehydrating. So he said, ‘Just start your day with water.’ So simple. ‘And then have your matcha.’ Another thing is that I have been adding flaxseed oil to my foods. I have a teaspoon of that almost every day in my yogurt or other foods, and I’ve seen a big improvement in my skin.

TRIBEZA: What do you hope guests take away from their experience at the Beauty Summit?
MCCONAUGHEY: The first half of the day, we’re really focusing on beauty from the inside. Then we have an amazing lunch and all the fun stuff, plus amazing gift bags. Then the second half of the day, we will talk about treatments: red light therapy, Botox, lasers, makeup, hair, aesthetics.
My hope is that women leave that day reconnected with what their own sense of beauty is, thinking about: What do they find to be beautiful about themselves? Or the world around them?
We’re all beautiful individually, and there’s a reason why we are. It’s hard for us women because we get disconnected from that thought at different stages of our lives. But here we can reconnect, talk with experts and researchers who are sharing and answering all of our questions. So then you can go home some extra tools in your toolbox to make your own journey a bit better.
