Fly Away to the Monarch – A Dreamy Nature Escape Near Austin
For respite among the trees, these unique getaway cabins offer stunning architecture in quiet naturescapes
With no shortage of unique lodging options in the Texas Hill Country, you can plan a restful weekend in any sort of yurt, teepee, cozy cabin, or glamping tent you please, but for something that truly stands apart from the rest, the Monarch dwelling located at luxury nature compound Onera lured us in with magical wonderment. Set amidst a peaceful wooded landscape in Fredericksburg, we found a home fancifully shaped like a butterfly in flight for a night’s getaway.
An Instagram darling for its captivating photos and videos, Onera offers unique structures that vary from the cozy Cocoon, to the barrel-shaped Spyglass, to the Lantana geodescent dome, but it’s the Monarch treehouse that set our hearts aflutter.
The Monarch cabin
Designed by Artistree, the Monarch is elevated to be 10 feet off the ground, which provides a sense of enchantment and offers incredible views of leafy trees above and the waters of Barons Creek below. Ample decking provides an ideal outdoor perch to enjoy the sounds of birds and wildlife, but even when inside, the floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights let the outside in for a seamless connection to nature’s beauty. Below the deck, the luxurious cabin offers a private, open-air rock tub for a sensational soak. Inside the Monarch, the irresistible indoor lofted hammock will have you resting peacefully under views of the treetops by day and stars by night.
