The acclaimed plant-based SEED Food & Wine Festival debuts in Austin from October 22 to 26, featuring a week of wellness-forward programming, culinary experiences, and community events that celebrate conscious living. Kick off the festival with a special screening of “Rowdy Girl,” a powerful documentary about a Texas cattle rancher turned animal sanctuary founder.

The evening includes a Q&A with director Jason Goldman and subject Renee King-Sonnen. Proceeds benefit Rowdy Girl Sanctuary.

The Austin Film Society (AFS) and Netflix will present the Austin premiere of Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague” on Monday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. at AFS Cinema. The event will feature a special 35mm screening followed by an in-person Q&A with Linklater and stars Guillaume Marbeck and Zoey Deutch.

The film reimagines the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless,” exploring the birth of the French New Wave and its enduring impact on modern cinema. A simultaneous digital presentation will also include a live introduction and streamed Q&A.

Tickets go on sale to AFS members on Oct. 8 and to the public on Oct. 10.

A second simultaneous screening of “Nouvelle Vague” will take place in Theater 2, presented in a digital format, and will livestream the post-screening Q&A with Linklater, Marbeck and Deutch.

The Paramount Theatre’s Panic at the Paramount series will present a double feature Oct. 29, hosted by filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, featuring John Carpenter’s 1978 classic “Halloween” and a surprise second film selected by Rodriguez himself.

The evening will kick off with “Halloween,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis in her breakout role as Laurie Strode, alongside Donald Pleasence and P.J. Soles. Before the screening, Rodriguez will introduce the film and share behind-the-scenes stories from Carpenter’s iconic slasher.

Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a mystery second feature, personally programmed by Rodriguez and revealed only at showtime.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the event beginning at 7 p.m.

Austin Parks Foundation will present a free outdoor screening of “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” on Nov. 15 as part of its Movies in the Park series.

Guests can enjoy complimentary popcorn from Cornucopia Popcorn, popsicles from GoodPop and on-site fun from SPORTSKIND and Wick Habit.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, picnics and dogs for an evening under the Austin night sky.

Festivities begin at 3 p.m. with activities, vendors and community partners, followed by the film at sunset.

The Paramount Theatre will host its annual Elf Pub Run on Dec. 2, combining festive fitness, holiday cheer, and a screening of the classic comedy “Elf.”

Participants will depart from the Paramount at 5:30 p.m. for a 0.8-mile run to Scholz Garten before returning to the theater for the film screening at 8 p.m. The evening will feature caroling, a costume contest, and plenty of elf-inspired antics, with prizes awarded before the movie begins.

Pub runners will receive drink tickets valid for beer or soda at the Paramount and a beer at Scholz Garten. A limited VIP “Holiday Hijinx” package includes party bus transportation, complimentary drinks and popcorn, and reserved seating for the screening.
