Join Verdant Gallery for the closing reception of “Selective Memory”, a group exhibition on view through March 21st. Working across diverse mediums and concepts, each artist in this exhibition engages with memory in their own way. Some incorporate found materials and remnants of the past, movement, or precise detailed work, each mirroring how memories surface and dissolve. Their approaches vary widely, inviting viewers to bring their own experiences and interpretations to each piece. Just as memory is deeply personal, art resonates with each viewer differently. What triggers nostalgia in one person might spark curiosity in another. Explore ‘Selective Memory’ and see what resonates, surprises, and stays with you.

West Chelsea Contemporary’s exhibition, “Beyond the West,” presents the West as it exists now: a contemporary luxury mindset defined by confidence, restraint and self-possession. This exhibition positions the West not as a geographic region or inherited mythology, but as a refined state of mind — visually authoritative, culturally fluent and unapologetically modern.
Featured artists Terry Urban, Miles Glynn and Geoffrey Gersten translate the raw intensity of the West into high-impact portraiture and place-based works that move beyond vintage nostalgia. Drawing from classical portraiture, figurative abstraction and iconic landscape traditions, their practices forge a contemporary visual language rooted in discipline and precision.

Join us for an engaging artist talk with mixed media Austin-based artist Padaric Kolander, featured in our current exhibition, Selective Memory. Kolander’s work is largely based on personal observations and experiences. He begins with small studies and renderings meant to translate into different possible interpretations. Elements are taken out of context and recombined into new environments where they are invariably reinterpreted with different twists and meanings through common symbols, misleading clues, apparent non sequiturs and juxtoposition. Kolander’s primary mediums of drawing, painting and printmaking similarly evolve, influence and inform eachother as he continues to explore new compositions and techniques while revisiting, improving or abandoning old ones.
Refreshments served at 2:00, artist talk begins at 2:30.
