Event Details
Verdant Gallery invites guests to celebrate the opening of “Patterns Interrupted”. Featuring local artists Laurie Carswell and Cameron Sands, both artists celebrate the beauty of interruption and the irregular forms that make landscape and life compelling. Laurie Carswell reimagines the iconic landscapes of Austin and the Hill Country through collage, fragmenting familiar vistas into layered, colorful compositions. Cameron Sands explores disruption through painting bold lines and saturated color. His oil paintings interrupt conventional representation, creating works where color and form take precedence over literal depiction. Their work suggests that perfection is not uniformity, but rather the beautiful irregularity found in nature and life itself – where disruption enables transformation and growth.
“Patterns Interrupted” will be on view August 22 – September 26.

A soil horizon is a layer of soil whose adjacent layers differ in color, texture, structure and composition, acting as a relative time referencing tool. While these layers mark chapters in earths time geologically, ceramics records our cultural histories, diligently remembering every gesture and mythological evolution. This new work aims to function as a site for remembering, reimagining and collectively reckoning with the layered horizons of our identities and origins. Through this work, ancestral craft and storylines are honored, and contribute to the richer, more nuanced conversation about who we are and what we might become.
Soil Horizons is supported in part by an Elevate grant of Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment.
