Event Details
The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum will host an opening night reception on Wednesday, Sept. 3, for two solo exhibitions: Black Bird Redemption Song by nationally acclaimed Fort Worth artist Sedrick Huckaby and Suspended at the UMLAUF: Totems by Austin-based artist Terra Goolsby. The free, public event runs from 6 to 8 p.m., with walk-ups welcome.
Huckaby’s exhibition features a series of sculptural black birds crafted from papier-mâché and housed in antique cages, alongside Portrait of Craig Watkins, a life-sized sculpture of Texas’s first elected African American District Attorney. The works explore themes of confinement, freedom, and the impact of mass incarceration on Black communities. Huckaby’s art is included in major institutions such as the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Goolsby’s Totems transforms the UMLAUF’s Roberta Crenshaw Building with five suspended sculptures that combine ceramic, fabric, and ancestral imagery. Drawing from Mesoamerican and Mexican American iconography, her work reflects on legacy, lineage, and healing. The Suspended at the UMLAUF series invites artists to activate the museum’s vertical space with large-scale hanging works.
Both exhibitions will be on view through Jan. 4, 2026, with additional events including guided tours every Friday at 11 a.m. and an artist talk with Goolsby on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

A fantastic fusion of cutting edge technology and dance that has been wowing the world ever since appearing on AGT over a decade ago…to performing one of Las Vegas’ top shows to this day. iLuminate features a brilliant cast of the country’s top dancers performing to energetic music – including top Pop and Rock hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, a little jazz, a little Latin, a little hip hop and more.
