“The Declaration Project” is a non-partisan, unbiased national arts and humanities initiative meant to promote empathy, community and unity led by renowned pianist and cultural advocate Lara Downes. KMFA will host a special presentation and performance in the Draylen Mason Music Studio at KMFA. The event will feature remarks and a performance by Lara Downes and include artistic presentations by Austin-based collaborators including Invoke, Conspirare, Austin Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble, Sangeeta Kaur and others. The event is free and open to the public.
KMFA’s doors will open at 1:00 PM for a community hour, during which the public can interact with participating organizations and artists and hear performances by the Akins ECHS String Octet, led by its director, Thomas Mann.

Panelists include touring musician Jimmy Vela, Cat Pozos of Howdy Gals, Jamal McKinney of iLL Manner Shows and SXSW, and Patrick Buchta of ATX Musicians. The discussion will be moderated by Trish Connelly.

Indie rock band Mt. Joy will return to Austin on April 25 as part of the Hope We Have Fun Part II tour, marking the group’s 10th year together. The band’s most recent album, “I Hope We Have Fun,” debuted in the Top 10 on Spotify’s U.S. Album Chart, with several tracks reaching AAA Radio’s Top 10.
The tour continues Mt. Joy’s commitment to community impact, with $1 from each ticket benefiting charity. The selected organization will be announced at a later date.

This year’s lineup includes Parliament Funkadelic featuring George Clinton, BADBADNOTGOOD, Eric Johnson, Larkin Poe, Adrian Quesada’s Boleros Psicodélicos, The War and Treaty, Chaparelle, Los Amigos Invisibles and more, along with second line parades throughout the park.
