Andrea Ariel Dance Theatre Presents: Here. Now.
A multicultural dance theatre performance with live music will run May 1-3, 2025 at the Boyd Vance Theater at the Carver Cultural Center
From May 1-3 Andrea Ariel Dance Theatre (AADT) will proudly present the premiere of Here. Now. at the George Washington Carver Cultural Center – Boyd Vance Theater. For this highly collaborative project for our 35th Season, AADT’s critically-acclaimed Founding Artistic and Producing Director Andrea Ariel brings together diverse multicultural artists to present an exhilarating evening of dance theatre and live music focused on the many facets of identity.
Audiences will experience powerful explorations of identity, memory and transformation tracing the arc of self-discovery, from childhood innocence to independence, crisis, and healing; delving into the dualities of identity shaped by culture—balancing harmony and conflict, tradition and change, belonging and solitude; and the eclectic influences of music, fashion, and cinema shaping artistic evolution and self-expression. Each of the artistic partners have created new works exploring these themes that are woven together through choreography by Andrea Ariel.
The artistic partners featured in the project include Anuradha Naimpally (Austin Dance India), Luis Ordaz Gutiérrez (Proyecto Teatro), Jun “Sunny” Shen (Shen Jun Movement Effect), and Ciceley Fullylove (Independent dancer, choreographer and singer).
Live music is created by Frederico Geib (Frederico 7 y Los Primes), Claude McCan (Claude9), Bruno Vinezof, Andres Acevedo and Rey Arteaga (Son y No Son) whose experiences bring together a vast array of music genres including Latin, Columbian cumbia, Mexican bolero, Brazilian, Americana, Blues, Funk, Soul, Reggae, Lounge Music, HipHop and Experimental.
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department

ISHIDA Dance returns with critically acclaimed dancers and choreography by ISHIDA, Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis, and Stephen Shropshire based in the Netherlands.
The world premiere by ISHIDA titled “inside my walls” is inspired by internationally acclaimed Japanese author Haruki Murakami and the distinct worlds he creates. Utilizing magical realism, “inside my walls” follows an introvert who hoards piles of newspapers on the perimeter of his apartment, which he believes protects him from harm. Encountering a mysterious visitor who has been living inside his apartment walls, he finds unexpected solace in their companionship.
The program also includes a world premiere by guest choreographer Stephen Shropshire, former artistic director of Noord Nederlandse Dans, who has received awards and honors for his choreography in Europe. Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis returns to ISHIDA with his ethereal work “Horizons”. Foniadakis’ work is well known in the European dance community commissioned by many of the top European dance companies over the past two decades. The evening promises to be a unique opportunity to see some of the best and most interesting choreography from Europe and the US.
About ISHIDA Dance Company
ISHIDA Dance presents original ISHIDA poetic narratives as well as works by exciting new and internationally established choreographers working with some of the most sought-after dancers (Houston Ballet, English National, Ballet BC, Ballet Vlaanderen, Nederlands Dans Theater, tanzmainz, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Ballets Jazz de Montréal) from Texas and around the world. Choreographers present engaging works that have never been performed for Texas audiences and in many cases are world premieres. These unique works invite empathy and introspection to lead to greater kindness towards oneself and the community.
